Oxymoron du Jour: The Generous Liberal

If you really believe that there are no such things as “compassionate conservatives” and that only the collectivist theories of Marx, Mao, Clinton and Obama can alleviate the plight of those who depend on charitable giving, read on.

George Will reports that Texas Supreme Court Justice Don R. Willett has reviewed, in the Texas Review of Law & Politics, an interesting book.  In 2006, Arthur C. Brooks, a professor at Syracuse University, published “Who Really Cares: The Surprising Truth About Compassionate Conservatism.”  The surprise (for some, at least) is that liberals are markedly less charitable than conservatives.

In splendid detail, Professor Brooks documents, with statistics and hard data — the stuff that liberals despise –  the manifestly more gererous propensities of certain segments of our society, largely red-state conservatives, as compared to what can only be described as the hypocritical and parsimonious blocs in primarily blue states: the libs and the Democrats.

Very interesting reading.

Naturally, you will not see this story in the mainstream media.  Which is one good reason to bookmark Liberty’s Apothecary and its linked websites for the information.

Meanwhile — forgive me as I reach for a tissue — it is now reported that, overall, the newspaper industry has experienced its most severe drop in advertising revenue in nearly 60 years… this while jacking prices sky-high for political campaigns.

Memo to the MSM and the Arizona Republic: you reap what you sow.
